Devlog - Fanak - 2
Fanak just had its first release with V0.1 🎉🚀
Fanak - The journey to here
I am thrilled to announce that after a lot of research, code, review, and help from friends, I can now say that Fanak has reached a stable release as a real programming language.
It can be used for small scripts and programs now (even CLI games 👾).
What does this bring?
Well, most of the stuff needed for a small scripting language (Fanak is more than a scripting language, but one of the design goals is to have powerful scripting capabilities).
Alongside what you would expect from a small course in Java or C#, Fanak has strong ADTs with Option, Result, and an effect system established.
Fanak is now working in the browser (via LiveCodes) for quick testing & prototyping.
Fanak doesn’t have interfaces, instead we use typeclasses with a derive decorator for deriving common standard operations instead of rewriting them.
V0.1 brings also a small JSON serializer and deserializer and a basic HTTP client. Again, not a complete backend runtime, but a start step.

To explore more you can take a look at the documentation site here: docs.
What’s next
We have a lot planned, and a lot more to add to the next releases, but to make a promise I commit to having a working backend runtime and a simple DB connection mechanism/ORM by V0.2.
Status of AI code
This is a bit honest, but getting here wasn’t easy and I must admit I reached out for AI more than I would like, does this mean the compiler is a load of unsalvageable slop? No, definitely not. But, to be honest it’s not the best and I must commit some of my time going forward to refactor the compiler to a state that satisfies my code standards.
Lastly
To all who helped me in this journey, thank you.
